Does Medicare Cover MAT?
Yes. Medicare covers medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder. This includes methadone and Suboxone, along with counseling and other support services.
The Caring Clinics accepts Medicare Part B and Medicare Advantage at all six of our Baltimore-area locations. If you are looking for a rehab that takes Medicare, call us today and we can check your plan.
What Medicare Covers for
Opioid Treatment
Medicare Part B covers a wide range of MAT services at certified opioid treatment programs (OTPs). At The Caring Clinics, your plan likely covers:
- Your first visit and medical assessment
- Methadone and Suboxone (buprenorphine) treatment
- One-on-one and group counseling
- Drug testing and health monitoring
- Peer recovery support services
- Care coordination and referral services
- Intensive outpatient services (where applicable)
Methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone are also covered when you receive them as an inpatient under Medicare Part A. Medicare Part D may cover certain MAT medications as prescriptions through your drug plan. Contact your plan to confirm. At The Caring Clinics, we offer methadone and Suboxone.
What does it cost?
At Medicare-enrolled clinics, there are no copays. The Part B deductible applies ($283 in 2026). If you have both Medicare and Medicaid, you pay nothing.
